South Africa is a country in Africa. It has a population of 54 million people. The capitals of South Africa is Pretoria, Bloemfontein and Cape Town. The largest city is Johannesburg. The area of the country is slightly over 1,2 million square kilometers. South Africa is the 25th-largest country in the world.
South Africa has a very variable climatic condition.
Example: the Kalahari Desert temperature are very dry and hot in the summers, and chilling in winters.
The Cape of Good Hope is a rocky headland on the Atlantic coast of the Cape Peninsula just outside Cape Town.
The Cape was an important landmark for sailors. The first European to reach the cape was a Portuguese explorer. He named it “Cape of Storms”, it later was renamed to “Cape of Good Hope” because of the great engendered by the opening of a
sea route to India and the East.
Nelson Mandela was South Africa´s first black president and also the country´s first president chosen by South Africa’s citizens. Mandela was born in 1918 and died in 2013. During his 95 years, he sat 27 of them in prison, most of them on Robben Island. Nelson Mandela fought against the apartheid regime and for equality, and because of that, he ended up being a prisoner of conscience.
